Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first efforts to be an established star failed. Two record labels signed her, but removed her from the market before she'd made any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and the track garnered only a small amount of attention due to the cheerfully silly title track. Perry made more of a splash several months later with the track I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a hard-edged electro-pop beat. Some critics accused the song of promoting homosexual relationships, and others asserted that its sensual lyrics were intended in order to entice men into fantasy. However, the mix of titillation and polished melodicism led to I Kissed a Girl become a top hit in a variety of countries and drove sales of her album One of the Boys (2008). Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second track Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of the songs Perry created herself ultimately registered the sales of over three million copies within the United States.
